Devil Fruit Guidelines Empty
PostSubject: Devil Fruit Guidelines   Devil Fruit Guidelines EmptyTue Apr 20, 2010 10:17 pm

Mods must give the clearance to even begin a Devil Fruit application. Do NOT just post an application and try to sneak it past us.

Devil Fruit (Cursèd Fruit in the 4Kids and Funimation Dubs) are fruit that grant the consumer unique and amazing powers depending on the fruit.
Here are some guidelines and basic information.

Types and their Powers
There are three known types of Devil Fruit. Paramecia, Zoan, and Logia.

Paramecia: By far the most common, Paramecia Devil Fruit empowers its eater with super human abilities. These abilities are widespread with numerous possibilities. From turning invisible to flight to untold celerity, these Devil Fruits can bestow a grand array of powers.
Zoan: Zoan Devil Fruit grant the user the ability to transform into one animal. This transformation also grants one the abilities and traits of said animal. Zoan Devil Fruit is not contained to only granting the user the form and abilities of living animals, but extinct and mythological animals as well.
Logia: Logia Devil Fruit are the most powerful Devil Fruit by far. Logia users transform themselves into an element, be it sand, air, or even light itself. This can grant them the intangibility and general invincibility. Most Logia type Devil Fruit have one major weakness, and it is usually their only weak point.

Consequences
Devil Fruit users face many consequences for their consumption.
The most notable weakness gained by Devil Fruit eaters is total helplessness in water. Devil Fruit users will sink like a hammer and be unable to use their abilities in when submerged in water. This can be especially hazardous for seagoing Devil Fruit users. This weakness does not seem to apply to running water. Rain, waves, etc.

Special stones called Kairoseki (Sea-Prism Stone) emit the same energy as the sea. This material cancels out all Devil Fruits to those it touches. It offers the same negative effects as being submerged in the sea. The Marines use it commonly to imprison and hold Devil Fruit users.

Guidelines

Devil Fruit have a usual nomenclature. Gomu Gomu no Mi, Yami Yami no Mi, etc. Usually using Japanese onomatopoeia and Japanese vocabulary. As every is not fluent in Japanese, we do not expect it to be perfect, only for you to follow the theme. No "Dangerous Fruit of Fiery Death" for the fruit name...

Consider the rarity in Devil Fruit. Not every character will have one. Very few will have a Logia type fruit. Take a good look around, if you see one too many Devil Fruit users around, do not even expect the clearance to type up an application.

Speaking of Logia Devil Fruit, they tend to be obscenely overpowered. Few Logia Devil Fruit users will earn a green light. If you do set forth to make one (or any Devil Fruit) with Mod approval, you better balance it out. In the case of Logia types, this can most likely be accomplished with a blatant and deadly weakness. If you make a character without a weakness or the ability to negate its weakness à la Crocodile, expect it to be smacked down by the hand of an angry God.

No character may possess the abilities of more than one Devil Fruit. One could possess more than one Devil Fruit, but it must have its own application and can not be used by one who has consumed another Devil Fruit.

Devil Fruits can have no duplicates. No two people can have the abilities of the same Devil Fruit. This will also apply to nigh identical fruits. If Joe D. Pirate has eaten a Devil Fruit which lets him stretch his body 3 meters, Johnny Ninja can't have one that lets him extend his body 5 meters. If they act like the same fruit, they ARE the same fruit.

There will be NO CANON fruit users.

Make sure that if your character has a Zoan type fruit to include your transformations. We will allow a max of three transformations, but up to five for pre-approved extremely high tier characters.

Everyone like originality. Keep this in mind.
